Is my priority date current?
A priority date is current when the chart shows "C" or your date is earlier than the date listed for your category and country. For October 2026, USCIS says to use the Dates for Filing chart for employment-based adjustment of status. Pick your category to check.
How this is checked
- We take the chart USCIS designated for October 2026 (Dates for Filing for employment-based, Dates for Filing for family-sponsored).
- We look up the cell for your category and country of chargeability.
- "C" means current. "U" means no numbers this month. Otherwise your priority date must be strictly earlier than the listed date.
- Being current only means the date condition is met. Whether you can file depends on other things (your status, your case), which are for your attorney.

Questions people ask
What's the difference between Final Action Dates and Dates for Filing?
Each month's Visa Bulletin has two charts per category. Final Action Dates show when a green card can actually be approved or a visa issued. Dates for Filing show the earliest date you may file (for adjustment of status inside the US) or send documents to the National Visa Center. For adjustment of status, USCIS announces each month which chart applies; if it doesn't say Dates for Filing may be used, Final Action Dates apply.
Which chart does USCIS use for October 2026?
For October 2026, USCIS says employment-based applicants use the Dates for Filing chart and family-sponsored applicants use the Dates for Filing chart (USCIS page last updated Oct 1, 2026). USCIS chart page.
What do "C" and "U" mean in the Visa Bulletin?
C means current: every priority date qualifies that month. U means unauthorized: no visa numbers are available for that category and country that month. Otherwise the chart shows a cut-off date, and your date must be earlier than it.
What if my priority date is the same as the cut-off date?
Then it is not current yet. USCIS's wording is "earlier than the date on the chart", so a date equal to the cut-off doesn't qualify that month.
Which country's line am I in?
Chargeability is generally by country of birth, not citizenship. In some cases a person can be charged to a spouse's or parent's country (cross-chargeability); this page doesn't work that out, so ask your attorney if it might apply.
When will my priority date become current?
No one can say for certain. Dates can move forward, stall or move backward (retrogress) from month to month. This page shows only the published bulletin and doesn't predict movement.

Get Priority when it's ready
Priority is a planned iPhone app. It would read your I-797, I-94, EAD, visa and passport on your phone, then show every date on one timeline with the rule behind each date, remind you ahead of time, and show your Visa Bulletin position each month. It does not exist yet. We're checking whether enough people want it before building it.
